The Israelites hated Babylon, for Nebuchadnezzar II had conquered Judea and Jerusalem, carrying off much of the population to Babylon. In the book of Revelation we read that an angel carried ‘him’ away into the spirit of the desert, where there was a woman sitting on a scarlet beast with seven heads and ten horns. The beast was covered in blasphemous names. The woman was dressed in a purple and scarlet dress, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. In her hand she held a cup full of sadistic things and the blood of saints, as well as her adulteries. The title was written on her forehead. Mystery, Babylon the great, the mother of prostitutes, and the abomination of the earth.
The original Scarlet woman was represented by Babylon. However, it was here that the hour was first divided into sixty minutes, the months were named and the movements in heaven were first observed in the Western Hemisphere. The times of the rising of the zodiacal signs were calculated by the Babylonians, and their findings were the bases for later Greek scholarship, astronomy and mathematics.
