Legend of Doppelganger

The legend of ‘Doppelganger’ is said to tell your imminent death. It is sometimes described as an astral projection or an aura, and the soul embodied and represents itself as a warning. it is seen anywhere, at the corner of your eye, in a window. The word ‘doppelgänger’ is the German word for ‘double-goer’ or ‘double walker’. Soon before the death of Queen Elizabeth I, she continuously saw a vision of herself lying dead on her death bed, still and pale. Goethe and Abraham Lincoln also claimed to have seen their double, as well as Catherine the Great of Russia, who ordered her soldiers to shoot at it when she saw it coming toward her. The poet Percy Bysshe Shelley saw his own double shortly before he died as well, and a month before Lady Diana Rich, daughter of the earl of Holland, died from smallpox she saw her double-goer while walking in her garden.

It was said that witches projected their own doubles and set them loose to do mischief. As a result, many women were executed for which craft even though it could have been proven that they were some where entirely elsewhen these deaths took place. The Egyptians believed that the soul had a double called the Ka. Upon death, the Ka would stay with the corpse in it’s tomb, whilst the soul went to the underworld. A special part of the tomb was called the house of Ka, which was reserved for the double, and were the priest ministered to it with food, drink and funerary offerings.
